Cure Thru Hiking

Welcome

Welcome and thank you for visiting my fundraising website.  Beginning in April 2008, I will be attempting to thru-hike the Pacific Crest Trail stretching over 2,600 miles from the Mexico/California border to the Canada/Washington border.  It is only natural that one might wonder why an individual would attempt such an aspiration and, without lying to you, it is simply because I want to.  With that being said, it is important to bring up the fact that in 2005, I attempted and completed a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail stretching over 2,100 miles from Georgia to Maine… because I wanted to.  However, after many months on the Appalachian Trail, I knew that there was something I had forgotten along the way: the many people that I could have been benefiting besides myself.  It was then that I decided that if I ever hiked another long distance trail, it would be for myself and others.

Nearly everyone’s lives have been affected in some way by breast cancer, be it a mother, sister, boss, father, grandmother, aunt, daughter, uncle, friend, or anywhere in between.  It is a devastating experience that has found its way into too many people’s lives.  Although there have been countless charities, foundations and fundraisers to help raise awareness and money for a cure, it is still an ongoing battle.  My hope, with your help, is to do what so many folks have done before me: find a cure… through hiking, of course.

Thanks, Andrew Brake
